What does it mean to have a sacred place?
This is an absolute necessity for anyone today. You mu
st have a room, or a certain hour or so a day, where you don’t know what was in the newspapers that morning, you don’t know who your friends are,
you don’t know what you owe anybody,
you don’t know what anybody owes you. This is a place where you can simply experience and bring forth what you are and what you might be.
This is a place of creative incubation.
At first you might find that nothing
happens there. But if you have a sacred place and use it, something will eventually happen there.

Why Tai Chi?

What are Tai Chi and Qigong exercises?

In essence Tai Chi and Qigong exercises are specific but uncomplicated, gentle movements of the body. The benefits are optimized when they are combined with postural alignment, correct breathing and focused mind.

By studying and practicing these exercises we create a superior environment for our mind and body in which to function. We substantially increase our resistance to disease in the body, and enhance the body’s natural healing process to recover from illness.

When we are healthier we are happier. Increased happiness brings
better health.

How so?

Tai Chi and Qigong exercises help maintain, strengthen and improve function by increasing the flow of energized blood and Qi to the organs and the musculoskeletal system. As we inhale we draw energy (Qi) into the cardiovascular system via the lungs. When we combine this natural process with gentle movement and focused mind, we directly improve the efficiency of the energetic circulation throughout the cellular body.

It is during this process that, “the most profound medicine,” is produced and fortified inside the body. This ‘profound medicine’ is the organism’s innate capacity for regeneration, repair, and balance.

Ultimately, as we take a conscious responsibility for enriching the circulation of energy into the cellular body, we improve our effectiveness for performance, rehabilitation, dealing with pathogens, distress, and disease in the body/mind.

With the knowledge of being able to participate in and manage our health through uncomplicated means, peace of mind develops, we are happier.

Happiness brings better health.

The three principles underlying Tai Chi and Qigong practice, posture, breath and mindfulness are often utilized by sporting personalities.

Notice as Tiger Woods adjusts his posture, deepens his breath and focuses his mind in the moment. This sets him up to be in the “high performance zone.” Being in the “zone” is similar to the conditions we create for ourselves and access through Tai Chi and Qigong.

Why choose Tai Chi and Qigong for health?
Are they appropriate for me?

By beginning to play and practice Tai Chi you are investing in your future. Think of it as affordable health insurance.

The 3 underlying principles of Tai Chi and Qigong can be practiced anywhere at anytime. Sitting at an office desk, car journeys, during meetings, beginning our day or before we fall asleep at night.

No special equipment is needed. 10 to 20 minutes of regular daily practice can be immensely beneficial.

The practice and principles are accessible and entirely safe for anyone to use irrespective of age or ability. Safe because we learn to recognize and adhere to our personal, “soft limit,” both mentally and physically. Safe because there is no dependency upon any external requirement and the range of movements are undertaken thoughtfully and slowly.

Specific programs can be designed to meet individual needs, body type, personality and medical conditions. Or the practitioner, in time, tunes into the exercises that manifest as suitable for themselves.

Once we start to discover and feel the benefits there is a typical inclination to deepen our understanding of Tai Chi and lengthen the time we allocate to practice. When this occurs it indicates that we have engaged with our, “spirit of enjoyment.” Reaching this stage, it's likely that we will continue with some form of Tai Chi exercise for the rest of our lives.

What are the benefits?
How quickly can I expect to experience them?

Of course lifestyle and presenting medical conditions are an important factor.

You can and normally will experience the benefits almost immediately after one or two classes. This applies to all players of Tai Chi whether we wish to increase our energy levels, decrease negative effects of stress, overcome ailments or improve flexibility and balance.

The physiological effects of Tai Chi and Qigong have and continue to be clinically studied in major Universities around the world. One has only to surf the internet to discover the remarkable results of these studies.

Results verify positive effects upon the functions of the entire body system. Initially improvements within the respiratory, cardiovascular and cerebral functions are commonplace. Enhancement of these basic functions inevitably facilitates strengthening of organ function, homeostasis and consequently our sense of being well.

Tai Chi and Qigong can augment the treatment of heart disease, high and low blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, gastrointestinal disturbance, stress disorders, depression, pulmonary fibrosis, arthritis, fatigue and more.

They do help to preserve the natural alignment of the spine, improve posture, complement and harmonize the nervous system, increase flexibility and strengthen the musculoskeletal network.
According to research undertaken by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 70% of disease and the associated medical costs are preventable.

Prevention is undoubtedly preferable to seeking a cure; Tai Chi, Qigong and Shiatsu have an exceptionally long and trusted track record in achieving both.
